A lot of spammers like to use our legally registered domain name to hide their identities. There is no way we can stop them. That is why we do not send mail from 'bestrates.com'. If you have received spam purportedly from this domain, all we can tell you is it did not come from here.
If you received spam in German, you should read this article in The Register titled German hate mail spam attack stuns experts. It notes that "German magazine Der Spiegel reported that 80 per cent of the spam it received came from a server at the University of Rostock. The university says it will work with IT experts to trace the spam back to its original source."
Another article on this topic in Mac News World notes that "The senders appear to have made use of a 'spambot' -- a program used to collect e-mail addresses and conceal the true address of the sender -- thereby making it difficult or impossible to trace the origin of the deviant e-mail. [...] The e-mails contain various return addresses, ranging from the well-known hotmail.com to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, one of Germany's most highly regarded and respected newspapers."
